Another Great Restaurant in CDMX’s Roma Norte

Posted on April 3, 2023April 5, 2023 by Delaney

One of our most standout restaurant meals was from Paramo. Located in Roma Norte, Mexico City, Paramo is nestled in what seems to be an old residential building. It is entirely unassuming from the outside. You would have no idea of the many rooms and corridors bustling with food runners carrying wide trays above their heads, and patrons enduring long wait times as they crowd the hallways and tucked-away bar rooms.

The Vibe

Moody lighting is the evening standard here, and there’s a soft red glow that accompanies you from hallways to the dining rooms, to the bathrooms, to the bars. The good music and chatter compete against each other for room, which contributes to Paramo’s energizing buzzy vibe.

The Food

Everything we ordered was delicious, so in standard Delaney fashion, I kept ordering more and more. Even though it was very busy when we were there, the food and drinks came out promptly.

The trio of salsas they bring to the table are all so good (I love a nice salsa verde) and the dried habanero in oil was a fan favorite, of course.

The only underwhelming taco we had was a chicken taco that was very dry. To that end, the salsas helped.

Some standout dishes

At Paramo, the Fideo Comala is brothless, and topped with chicharron crumbs and tangy chunks of queso fresco. Other favorites were the La Muñeca tacos (pork confit), and the Chanala de Pato (carnitas).

To Visit

As far as I know, they don’t take reservations. You put your name in when you arrive (we waited over an hour). Tip: pass the time by chatting it up with other eager diners and/or dip into one of the bar alcoves. We had a couple mezcal margaritas with cucumber and mezcal old fashioned’s- both recommended.

There are a ton of great restaurants located in Roma Norte. This is pretty much why we decided to stay in this area during our trip. There were a few meals we weren’t very thrilled about in Roma Norte, but Paramo was not one of them. I hope you get to see for yourself!

Paramo has no official restaurant website but you can peep their Instagram!
